President … How should you call? Director, Secretary … I never thought of that … I’m Freinet … an immense fraternal team you feel the fervor.

No other title could better mark the spirit and meaning of our great meeting, even if the newcomers had learned nothing in this Congress, they were forever, if they felt the burning heart to beat Modern School. But this friendship and fraternity are not at home, pre-established by some sort of superior virtue.

They are the fruit of unfailing example of hundreds of thousands of comrades who, through their cooperative work, by their ideal thirst and progress, radiated a new form of thought and humility based action dedication but also of dignity and exaltation that arouse a new brotherhood – the brotherhood of creative and liberating work. * * * We will work specifically in the first issue after Congress, to say that we found again, of encouraging the initiatives, projects developed. Future issues will provide details on how the Congress and the importance of the work done, so that comrades who were unable to travel to Paris have, our Annual Meeting, a loyal and constructive image.

The Congress brought comforting proof of the maturity of our Movement. There was a time, not far away, where I had to monitor everything and intervene constantly in the organization as well as in committees and plenary sessions, to avoid errors or deviations always threatening. This stage is thankfully outdated today. In all departments, we have pedagogically and humanly safe comrades who can animate their control groups. And the courses they organize are blatant proof of this maturity.

The Paris Congress passed without my intervention directly in terms of its evolution. The beautiful special issue released on the eve of the Congress, and that was so helpful and if noticed, was fully prepared and developed by the Parisian comrades. I only did approve wholeheartedly. I was so caught and cornered in the Congress that I could not participate actively in the work of the Commissions.

But they have been busy and you will read the report in. I was not alone to answer calls from the press or radio. It was enough to entrust journalists to one of the many members who were able to welcome them and control them. And several comrades were called on the radio for quality recordings.

One of the plenary sessions of the afternoon, which I could not attend, and devoted to the part of the teacher, was particularly successful. It was to end at 17 pm. It took the gatekeepers of the Sorbonne expelled comrades in 19 hours. These are just a few comforting facts among others. Our Movement now has multiple heads, a veritable army of insiders, initiators and books.

And that is why, despite the limited financial resources available to us, we can influence an often decisively while our primary, any pedagogy of our country. And it is also one of the characteristics of our Movement, also perfectly consistent with our teaching, that this complex organization at the base, this imposed discipline that does not come from above but up our lives and our work this vast cooperative achievement driven by a common ideal and its roots in the classes in the departments, in foreign countries, with a fair amount of initiatives none so slightly authoritarian administration can not mobilize so beautifully . It is companies that are known by their leader, or by the coordinated action of a leadership team whose members can be counted on the fingers of one hand, it is well at home, a movement of depth and scope that may have never had an example in the history of our pedagogy.

Nothing would give us greater satisfaction than finding this beneficial. The Art Exhibition brings dramatic proof of this maturity. Never, perhaps, participation had been so numerous and of such quality.

Elise Freinet itself regretted not being able to have, for such wealth, some large gallery that would better than separate exposures, given this dual impression of wealth and abundance. But ultimately, the arrangement made has not betrayed our fine production: a large room of the Educational Museum was specifically reserved for the mother and the child’s home. They complained with some justification in the previous Congress that our techniques appear specifically focused on artistic creation and the various working techniques do not benefit equally from our solicitude. A great effort was made this year and we congratulate Fonvieille have nothing overlooked for the technological success. Equipment, tools, children’s achievements, educational panels were louder than the best speech.

When we received the UNESCO officials, it was enough for us to accompany them to our stands to make them understand, even to our work, the profound significance of our innovations. We say, in the next issue, which tracks we think we start to make more effective our achievements in this area. An exciting work ahead.

In Paris, our techniques have finally hit the mainstream. This has been long and difficult and it took the black tenacity patient friend Oury. The mainstream press has finally moved. The radio (French, Radio Luxembourg and Radio Monte Carlo, Europe No. I, Arabic, Italian, American Radio) has finally given voice, and a voice that carried.

We have now completed the first stage of distribution. Many certainly even journalists, parents and educators who know nothing about our techniques. But all pretend, at least, to know them.

It should certainly not look too closely at how history is written, but we now know that the Freinet Techniques of Modern School is a desirable progress, they are the basis of education of tomorrow. It’s a fact of size that gives the general public an eminently favorable function of which we must take advantage. We will do so and will indicate how soon.

The Freinet Techniques of Modern School, Freinet pedagogy, currently the only existing method in the world. After a plethora of methods L914 to 1939, we are now in an educational vacuum period: the Decroly method is exceeded, the Montessori method, too formal, crystallized around some special experiences; America seeks – pedagogically – like England. Makarenko himself made valuable experiences and gave educators valuable advice, but it is not the cause of a teaching method.

The Modern School currently appears in the world as the only teaching method psychologically, socially, humanly and technically sound. It has its sound principles proved by an experiment on a massive scale, which earned him a resonance constantly increased in the pedagogy practiced at all levels. This favorable position imposes duties: permanent continuation of our research, cooperative work ever more intense, national and international propaganda.

With the help of our best comrades we must succeed. For the first time UNESCO was interested in our work. And that, certainly in part because our work is increasingly known, but also because our presence in Paris allowed us to understand, by the facts, the possible scope of our achievements. We can not say yet what the consequences of this contact.

We will say only that it is big promises that we will try to accelerate progress.
